Little Creek Park

Located off of Spring Hill Avenue on the west side of South Charleston. The Park has eleven picnic shelters available for rental - all are equipped with restrooms and various recreational equipment. The shelters also have electricity, grills and fireplaces. The park is open from March 1 through October 31, seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Joplin Park

Tennis, basketball, softball/baseball field, playground equipment and 1/3 mile walking track are available at the park.  Pets are allowed on a leash.

South Charleston Memorial Arena
 
This multi-purpose  building located at Trace Fork Plaza opened in December of 2001.  It boasts an official size rink for both hockey team play and figure skating clubs with bleachers seating for 500 people.  Learn-to-skate programs are available for all ages.  A pro-shop sports all the latest in skates and wearing apparel.  Party rooms available to rent with arcade and concessions on premises.  Open to the public.

Oakes Field

Primarily used as a football/soccer field for local schools, this fully-equipped facility seats 5,000.  Concession stands, press-box, PA system and public restrooms complement this sports facility.  Oakes Field is available for rent for large sporting events.  An adjacent gymnasium is available for rent.  Seating capacity is 1,200 and can be used for conferences and athletic events such as boxing and wrestling.  Tables and chairs are available upon request.  This facility is handicap accessible. 

Hiking Trails

Visit scenic LITTLE CREEK PARK and experience its natural beauty during every changing season from April through October. The many hiking trails offer fun and thrills for beginners going at a more relaxed pace to the more exciting and adventurous explorer taking the longer trails. Some of the sights to see are the rock formation known as “Devil’s Tea Table” , the old saw mill and a natural spring.

All-American Soap Box Derby

Today, Little Creek Park is recognized as the country’s premier soap box derby racing facility and is the only lighted track for night racing. In addition to the annual qualifying race for the world championship in Akron, Ohio, there are fourteen other races, including one for handicapped boys and girls.

South Charleston Recreation Center

South Charleston Community Center houses a 25-meter indoor swimming pool, two racquetball courts, basketball courts, tanning beds and a fully-equipped health club featuring cybex free weights and Paramount equipment.
The Center’s gym has seating for 1500 persons and hosts a variety of activities. The gym is open daily, so if you feel like shooting a few hoops, here’s an ideal place to work out! The two racquetball courts can be rented by the hour - for reservations call (304) 744-4815.
